HAPPY TUMMY STEWED APPLES

This stewed apple recipe is based on Ayurvedic principals. Not only is it highly nutritious and an ideal breakfast dish, but the fiber, pectin, found in the apple skins may help to maintain and repair the intestinal mucosa lining in the gut. I often suggest this as a simple but effective recipe to help clients who have sensitive gut or need microbiome support.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 eating apples washed (preferable organic) roughly cut into equal piece keep the peel on.

  • ½ tea spoon of cinnamon/stick

  • 4 cloves

  • 2 star anise

  • 1 cup of filtered water

METHOD

  1. Add the cut apple and spices into a sauce pan and pour in the water.

  2. Bring to a boil and then bring down to a simmer for 5-8 minutes.

  3. Leave to cool. Serve with a couple of tablespoons of coconut/greek yogurt and honey.

This dish is delicious served as a breakfast or dessert. Serves 4.
